Crude oil drops amid dollar rally

Forexpros - Crude futures fell on Friday, the markets breathed a key Iranian threats to close the waterway, and instead focused on the U.S. unemployment rate, which beat expectations and sent investors racing towards the dollar.

On the New York Mercantile Exchange, light sweet crude futures traded on the delivery of USD101.27 per barrel in February U.S. trading, down 0.54%.

Commodity hit a session low and the highest USD102.79 USD100.89.

Oil spiking spent the last few sessions on fears that Iran could cut off access to good risk Strait of Hormuz, a narrow passageway that connects the Persian Gulf oil states, with the rest of the world.

On Friday, however, U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported that nonfarm payrolls grew by net 200,000 in December, far outpacing expectations to get around 150,000.

News created a demand for the dollar, which trades inversely to crude oil, and gave investors reason to sell and take profits.

In addition to ongoing fears about the debt grew slightly worse on Friday, the German factory data, which in turn depressed crude oil prices.

Elsewhere on the ice Futures Exchange, Brent oil futures February delivery fell 0.15%, trading USD112.58 per barrel to USD11.31 his U.S. counterpart.

The gap between the two prices on the higher end of the contract hovers near all-time high of USD20.00 USD1.00 per spread, and historical.
