30-share BSE Sensex has trimmed its gains over the last few hours of trading and closed on Friday at a moderate growth in the middle of the cross-trade. High volatility was also seen in the markets before the final decision on the G-20 meeting today. Sensex BSE 30-share rose 80.68 points, to close at 17,562.61 and NSE Nifty 50-share only moved 18.45 points to end at 5,284.20.
The market had a strong trade-morning trading on the Sensex gains 150 to 200 point rally in the global post-bailout deal in Greece for its cancellation. This rally was supported by the European Central Bank to cut lending rate by 25 basis points to 1.25% for the first time in two years yesterday. But the market has managed to preserve the gains of trade due to volatility in the second half of Europe, especially before the G-20 meet. Investors were concerned over the financial and political stability in the euro area.
Mark Konyn, CEO of RCM, says Greek default has already been priced by the market. "I think I now have more focus and to a lesser extent Italy and Spain."
Rally last week (Nifty up to 6%) was mainly on the back of overexcited in the market, which will soon realize that things are not so great, feels Anand Tandon CEO of JRG Securities. "I think the realization has come out slowly, in fact, they (EU leaders) have done nothing but try and plan a structured bailout of Greece," he said adding: "... picture is still quite murky."
Weeks, compared with indexes fell more than 1.3%, while broader indexes gained more than 1%.
Financial capital goods, metal and car (two-wheeler space) supported the stock market throughout the hearing. But the fall in Reliance Industries, TCS, and take advantage of HUL.
Infosys, SBI, ICICI Bank, BHEL and L & T received 0.8 to 1.5%. JSPL, Hindalco and Hero Motocorp concentration of 2%.
Bharti Airtel rose 1.4% in Q2, despite the lackluster numbers. Company's Q2 profit fell 15.5% to Rs 1,027 crore quarter-on-quarter.
However, Reliance Industries lost 0.6% and HUL dropped 0.85%. TCS, M & M, Maruti and Tata Motors fell 0.4%. Tata Power tanked 2%.
Broader indexes gained from 0.4 to 0.8%. Of smaller ones descending on the National Stock Exchange, 818-612.
Total traded turnover was more than Rs 1.05 lakh crore.
