We all know that the lists are widely used in situations where the outcome is critical (aeronautical, power, drugs or military operations). That we may not know is that the use of checklists has proved useful in very different situations. As different production environments such as floors, daycares and checklists political campaigns play a leading role.

The idea is simple: create a checklist meeting, distribute, display and use. Here are some tried and true simple rules to make it work better.

    The list must be on one side of the paper. Use a large font that is easy to read.
    Checklists are most effective short and quickly completed. Much can be run through in less than a minute.
    They usually have 7-10 or so items on them.
    Post them and use them!

A checklist is simply a reminder system. It includes things that you already know (hopefully), but perhaps forgetting for a particular event. The checklist preserves practices that make a successful event (such as a meeting) right there in front of you. In this way, even if you are tired, headache or worry you will not miss anything important.

You can also use the checklist to remind you to try new ideas, techniques or practices. For example, you can rotate items in the list that you would like to try.
