The Mystery Method is a method of seduction, first popularized by Erik Von Markovik a.k.a "Mystery". The system was initially outlined in posts on the newsgroup alt.seduction.fast. Since October 2006, Mystery is no longer part of the Mystery Method's website, which has grown and changed in his absence, and he has launched his own website.

Mystery is billed as "the World's Greatest Pickup Artist," (Elle Magazine, Saturday Night Magazine, et. al), and is responsible for coining a lot of terminology now used in the world of seduction: such as "3 second rule", "set", "peacocking", "indicator of interest", "indicator of disinterest", "last minute resistance", "routine", "neg hits", "canned material", etc[3]. The Mystery Method is now marketed online, via books, DVD sets, and most notably, live seminars and coaching with various instructors, including Markovik himself.

Mystery Method uses the term 'value' to describe the benefit of aligning with a person or group with the potential to improve one's reproductive chances (Replication value) or quality of life (Survival value). A big, alpha male poses a large possible threat to other males' S&R value, where a very attractive woman possesses high R value. According to Mystery, women evaluate potential mates primarily in terms of the Survival value they offer, while men evaluate potential mates in terms of their Replication value.

Mystery Method teaches that people have a strong emotional reaction to people with significantly higher value. Men will have an emotional reaction to very attractive women. This emotional reaction causes them to feel an adrenaline rush, and to act in a 'weird' way around the target female. An exceptionally attractive woman causes this reaction in the majority of men, so the method teaches that she will subconsciously believe that any male who appears emotionally unreactive to her is of higher value than she, and she will become attracted to him.

Many of the techniques taught as part of the method are ways for the user to demonstrate high 'value'. Examples include story telling with embedded (but well-concealed) bragging, appearing emotionally unreactive to 'targets', and showing that the user is 'pre-selected' by other women. These techniques, along with many others, are taught as part of the 'M3 Model'.

The rhetoric and vocabulary underpinning Mystery Method borrows heavily from Evolutionary Psychology - for instance 'love' as an objective of human sexual relationships is replaced with pair bonding, which he defines as a strong bond between two individuals which is based on the unconscious desire to raise their Survival and Replication values

The Mystery Method M3 Model is divided into 3 steps: Attraction, Comfort and Seduction, each of which is divided into 3 phases. The Method teaches a set of strategies and tactics for each phase to successfully move the interaction forward toward the end goal, which is the creation of an intimate sexual relationship.

Step 1: Attraction The goals of the 'Attraction' phase are: to start a conversation with the target ('Opening'); demonstrate high 'value' to the 'target' in order to build her attraction to the pickup artist ('Female to Male interest'); and to appear to become increasingly attracted to her, for reasons other than her looks, while making her increasingly invested in the interaction ('Male to Female interest').

Step 2: Comfort In the 'Comfort' phase, one should attempt to establish rapport, trust, connection and a sense that the interaction is real and genuine. According to the Mystery Method, "the game is played in comfort". It is the longest and most crucial step and generally takes several hours, possibly over the course of several days, to complete. Mystery writes that of the average 4 to 10 hours (cumulatively) it takes to build a connection sufficient for the initiation of a sexual relationship, as much as 90% will be spent in the comfort-building phase.

Step 3: Seduction The 'Seduction' phase is the physical escalation towards sex and dealing with a woman's natural apprehension towards sex with a new partner. It also includes dealing with Last Minute Resistance (LMR), for which the Mystery Method advocates freeze-outs.

For men out there who are looking for tips on how to pick up women, I ran into an intriguing method called the Mystery Method. It was developed and popularized by Erik Von Markovik, who also goes by the name of Mystery.

Von Markovik claims to have been a late bloomer, not hitting puberty until the age of 16 and not losing his virginity until the age of 21. Frustrated with his loneliness and inability to meet women, he set out on a study to learn how to be successful. After years of research and thousands of approaches, he developed his method of seducing the other sex.

He classifies people by two values, their S and R value. "S" stands for the survival value and "R" stands for their replication value. Women tend to evaluate men based on their "S" value and men judge women for their "R" value.

The largest principal behind this is that all people gravitate to a person with a higher value. We all want a mate who we feel is above our level. Once people pin point a potential target that is "above their level" their emotions and adrenaline appear to get the better of them.

They just aren't themselves for a variety of reasons. How many times have you found a man or woman who you really wanted to get to know and then couldn't figure out why you came off as a stammering fool when you approach them?

An example of this is a very attractive woman, who would possess a very high "R" value. She is quite used to men being interested in her, and she's also aware of the fact that they tend to have difficulty interacting with her.

When she meets a man who appears not to be emotionally affected by her, it confuses her and she starts to believe that he must be of a "higher value" than her and she begins to desire him. It's based less on her physical attraction to him and more on an intellectual level.

The Mystery Method works off of these foundations. It plays upon this human nature and breaks the approach into a three step process. It claims if these steps are followed properly, success is bound to happen.

For the sake of our example, let's use the example of a man going after a woman.

Step 1-Attraction * The man begins a conversation with the woman. * His focus is to portray his value to the woman and highlight his strong "S" value. * He portrays a growing interest in her through the conversation while downplaying anything to do with her looks.

Step 2-Comfort * The man works on establishing a trust and general rapport with her. This is the most critical stage of the entire process, and it can take many hours or in some cases even days to play out. * Von Markovik claims it can be accomplished in as little as 3-9 hours.

Step 3-Seduction This deals with the escalation to physical contact, and it includes the "Last Minute Freezeout" in which the man withdraws from the sexual encounter with a line like, "you're right, we really shouldn't be doing this."

The only involvement with an 809 area code by Elvis Preston King is that the country where he resides has an 809 area code and he uses a cell phone with an 809 area code.

There is also the slanderous statement made by www.nationmaster.com/encyclopedia that Elvis Preston King's pictures that are posted on the internet have been digitally altered, Elvis has the original negatives and there has been no digital alteration of any kind of any of the Elvis Preston King photos circulating on the internet.

Generally speaking, defamation is the issuance of a false statement about another person, which causes that person to suffer harm. My take on this is that more than likely Mystery is a friend of the owners of www.nationmaster.com/encyclopedia and this is continuation of the Feud between Elvis Preston King and Mystery (Erik von Markovik) who has a reality TV show called The Pick up Artist. Mystery (Erik von Markovik) also claims to be the world's greatest pick up artist. Google search Mystery vs Elvis for more information. One thing for sure when the Hollywood movie about Elvis Preston King finally makes it's dabue, with Mystery being the antagonist and Elvis Preston King being the underdog protagonist who finally gets the recognition that he deserves as the world's greatest pick up artist this movie will be a megahit.
